Team

The team at Kings’ School Dubai includes the Leadership Team, Primary and Specialist Teachers, Learning Assistants and Support Staff. It is a dynamic, forward thinking, highly skilled and happy group of people, all striving to do ‘The Best By Every Child’.

    Rebecca Gray Director of Education

    Rebecca graduated with a degree in Psychology in 2002 and went on to complete her PGCE at the University of North London. She began her teaching career in the London borough of Tower Hamlets, where she gained her first senior leadership post, and progressed to further senior leadership responsibilities in Peterborough. Following her career progression through leadership roles, Rebecca became Deputy Headteacher at a school in Huntingdon, during which time she also completed her NPQH. Rebecca has since been the Headteacher of a primary school in Northamptonshire and the founding Principal of a preparatory school. She has also worked as an Improvement Cluster Lead for the David Ross Education Trust, where she led on whole school improvement for seven of their primary schools.

    Bede Higgins Principal

    Bede obtained a degree in Mathematics and Psychology from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, followed by a Diploma of Teaching in Mathematics, Physical Education and Outdoor Education from Christchurch College of Education. He began his teaching career at Tauranga Boys’ College, New Zealand, where he taught Mathematics and Physical Education. 

    Moving to the UK, Bede continued teaching, this time specialist Physical Education at Thomas’s London Day School.

    After relocating to Dubai, Bede was appointed Head of Physical Education at Jumeirah Primary School. During this time, he joined the leadership team with a specific brief for curriculum design, and also completed his NPQH. In September 2010, Bede joined Dubai English Speaking School as Assistant Headteacher, again with responsibility for curriculum. In 2012, Bede successfully completed a Master’s degree in Leadership and Management.

    Joining Kings’ School Dubai as Deputy Headteacher in 2014, Bede led on curriculum and assessment reform. Bede was appointed Principal in 2016 and continues to drive the improvement agenda, ensuring that Kings’ exceptional standards remain high.

    Georgia Lavery Deputy Headteacher

    Georgia was born in Liverpool, England, and gained her teaching qualification from Liverpool Hope University College. She began her career in 1999 at a large multicultural school in Eastham, London, before moving to Dubai in 2002. Her first seven years in Dubai were spent teaching at GEMS Jumeirah Primary School, where she held a number of roles including Head of Literacy and Gifted and Talented Education. Georgia joined Kings’ School Dubai as Assistant Headteacher from Dubai English Speaking School, where she taught for six years as an advanced skills teacher and Phase Leader for Years Five and Six.

    Claire Lavery Assistant Headteacher FS

    Claire is from Buckinghamshire and has a Bed (Hons) degree with a major in
    English literature. She is also a trained Reading Recovery teacher and has worked as an Early Years
    Team Inspector in the UK. Claire has a passion for play-based and child-centred learning so has
    chosen to spend her entire career in Early Years Education. She strongly believes that it's through
    play-based experiences, where children are encouraged to investigate and use their imaginations,
    that children make sense of their world, as they engage with others and explore their environment.

    Claire has taught in many different countries in a variety of settings, including
    Pakistan, Germany, Azerbaijan, Ghana and the UK. During this time, she has led on Art and English,
    taken on the roles of Key Stage One Coordinator, SENCO, Assistant Head of Early Years and acting
    Deputy Head. Claire has also been the Head of Pre Prep in an Independent girls’ school with a
    consistently outstanding Early Years Department.

    At Kings', Claire leads a highly skilled team of teachers and learning assistants in the Foundation Stage.

    Amy McDonnell Assistant Headteacher YR1&2

    Amy was born in Ireland and received her teaching qualification from St Patrick’s College in Drumcondra in 2005. Amy began her teaching career at St Patrick’s BNS in Dublin before moving to Dubai in 2008, where she took some time out of her career to have children. Amy returned to full time teaching in 2012 and has been a part of the Kings’ family since. During this time, Amy has worked in Foundation Stage, Learning Support and, more recently, Year 1 Leader and Phonics Leader before securing the role of Assistant Headteacher.

    Louise Barber Assistant Headteacher YR3&4

    Louise graduated with a BA Hons. in Education in 2006 and began teaching in Cheshire, England. For the first few years of her career she taught a range of year groups and took on the role of SENCo. In September 2012, she moved to a school outside Liverpool; it was here she progressed from a class teacher and SENCo to KS1 Leader. In 2015 Louise moved to Dubai to join Kings’ where she has been the Year Leader for both Year 1 and then Year 2 at Kings’ School Al Barsha. Most recently, she was appointed Assistant Headteacher for Year 1 and Year2 at Kings’ School Dubai.

    William Wallace Assistant Headteacher, YR5&6

    William graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) from the University of Gloucestershire in 2012 and then began teaching in Hampshire. At his first school, William taught Year 3 as well as driving the integration of technology across the curriculum and leading sport. In 2014, William moved to Dubai to join the Kings’ family where he has had many different roles, including class teacher for years 5 and 6, computing teacher specialist, leader of data analysis and digital innovation. Most recently, William was appointed Assistant Head Teacher for Years 5 and 6.

    Mohamed Ali Mohamed Head of Arabic

    Mohamed graduated with a Bachelor of Education, with a major in Arabic, from Alexandria University in Egypt followed by a Diploma in Arabic Curriculum Design.

    Mohamed began teaching Arabic in Alexandria International School for native and non-native speakers and was an iGCSE Arabic teacher prior to taking on Head of Arabic. He also worked as a team inspector for Arabic and Islamic in Egypt.

    After relocating to Dubai, Mohamed joined Kings’ School Al Barsha as a secondary Arabic teacher and in 2016, was appointed Head of Arabic at Kings’ School Dubai.  More recently, Mohamed completed a PhD in Education and is now undertaking further studies for his National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL).

    Becky Hayward Head of Inclusion

    Becky graduated with a BA/ Bsc (Hons) in Education and Geography in 2006 and began teaching in Bristol. Throughout her career, she has taught from Year 1 through to Year 6 and has led in many key curriculum areas. In 2016, Becky became SENCO and Assistant Head of a primary school in Bristol and began her role as an Attachment Theory and Autism specialist.

    In 2019, Becky moved to Dubai to join the Kings’ family, where she has taken on the role of Inclusion Leader and SENCO.
