LEADERSHIP TEAM

The Kings’ Leadership team is a group of highly qualified and experienced people, whose focus is to ensure that Kings’ achieves its commitment to deliver ‘The Best By Every Child’. This is done by providing outstanding support and direction for our team of highly experienced and talented teaching staff.

    Rebecca Gray Director of Education & Principal, Kings' School Al Barsha

    Rebecca graduated with a degree in Psychology in 2002, and went on to complete her PGCE at the University of North London. She began her teaching career in the London borough of Tower Hamlets, where she gained her first senior leadership post, and progressed to further senior leadership responsibilities in Peterborough. Following her career progression through leadership roles, Rebecca became Deputy Headteacher at a school in Huntingdon, during which time she also completed her NPQH. Rebecca has since been the Headteacher of a primary school in Northamptonshire and the founding Principal of a preparatory school. She has also worked as an Improvement Cluster Lead for the David Ross Education Trust, where she led on whole school improvement for seven of their primary schools. Rebecca joins Kings’ School Al Barsha as Primary Headteacher from September 2016 and has already spent considerable time beforehand getting to know the Kings’ family.

    Kevin Stedman Senior Education Adviser and Chair of Governors

    Kevin is Senior Education Adviser and Chair of Governors to the Kings’ family of schools. He is also the Director of his own education consultancy, operating internationally and specialising in all aspects of school design and the engagement of outstanding school leaders.

    Kings’ School Dubai, the flagship Kings’ Education school, is the only school in the United Arab Emirates to have achieved the rating of outstanding every year since inspections began in Dubai. Kevin’s foresight and vision, together with the ambition and creative ability of the company’s Chairman, have ensured that Kings’ has become a world-class leader in independent education. Two other Kings’ Schools are now open in Dubai, at opposite ends of the city, and the work continues to do ‘The Best by Every Child’.

    Bede Higgins Principal, Kings’ School Dubai

    Bede obtained a degree in Mathematics and Psychology from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, followed by a Diploma of Teaching in Mathematics, Physical Education and Outdoor Education from Christchurch College of Education. He began his teaching career at Tauranga Boys’ College, New Zealand, where he taught Mathematics and Physical Education. Moving to the UK, Bede continued teaching, this time specialist Physical Education at Thomas’s London Day School.

    After relocating to Dubai, Bede was appointed Head of Physical Education at Jumeirah Primary School. During this time, he joined the Leadership Team with a specific brief for Curriculum Design, and also completed his NPQH.

    In September 2010, Bede joined Dubai English Speaking School as Assistant Headteacher, again with responsibility for Curriculum. In 2012, Bede successfully completed a Master’s degree in Leadership and Management.

    Since joining Kings’ School Dubai as Deputy Headteacher in 2014, Bede has led on Curriculum and Assessment in collaboration with our other Kings’ Schools. Now as Principal, he continues to lead on this area ensuring that Kings’ exceptional standards remain high.

    Kerry Dalton Principal, Kings’ School Nad Al Sheba

    Kerry joins Kings’ School Nad Al Sheba from Kings’ School Al Barsha where she fulfilled the role of Deputy Headteacher. Kerry has a wealth of leadership experience, including six years as Headteacher in a village primary school in rural North Yorkshire, leading her school through several highly successful inspections, and taking an executive role in the development of  a 60-school-wide Teaching School Alliance, as lead on mathematics and CPD for its School Direct students across the region.

    A First-Class BSc (Hons) degree in Primary Education with Mathematics, there is nothing she loves more than making connections between the classroom and the world beyond it, supporting teaching, and seeing children thrive as they learn.

    Appointed Local Leader of Education in 2017, she has developed a highly successful ‘Developing Effective Support in Mathematics: TA Toolkit’ 6-month training package, working alongside Yorkshire Ridings Maths Hub and STEM; is a published author of ‘Hands-On Maths’; and has worked internationally as a mathematics consultant, working with schools across the UK, Channel Islands, and in Dubai.

    Sarah Reynolds Primary Headteacher, Kings' School Al Barsha

    Sarah graduated with a degree in Music from Durham University in 2004. She then studied for a PGCE at the University of Cambridge, gaining QTS status in August 2006. Sarah began her teaching career in Cambridgeshire, and moved on to Berkshire, before leaving the UK for Dubai in 2011 where she began her relationship with Kings’. She has taken a number of leadership roles throughout her career, including Leader of Gifted and Talented provision while in Cambridgeshire, and Head of Key Stage 2 in Berkshire. Previously at Kings’ School Dubai, Sarah held the positions of Leader of Key Stage 1, Assistant Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher.

    Michael Bloy Secondary Headteacher, Kings' School Al Barsha

    Michael’s journey in education has taken him from schools in the United Kingdom, to Dubai and to Ecuador; returning back to Dubai in August 2017 to join Kings' School Al Barsha as Secondary Headteacher.

    Previous to Headship in the British Embassy School, Michael held a prominent leadership position in an outstanding UK Curriculum School in Dubai and arrives at Kings’ with an incredibly strong track record. He thoroughly enjoys applying his experience and expertise to his leadership role in Kings’ School Al Barsha and is excited by the opportunity of helping to ensure our students’ further success as the Secondary School continues its dramatic growth.

    Michael’s leadership is driven by the simple premise that “our students only get one chance” and he strives to ensure that the schools in which he works are environments where the whole community is safe, engaged and enthused to learn.

    Wendy Prior School Adviser

    Wendy has many years experience as a parent governor with Kings' schools and brings fifteen years’ experience in post 16 education. Additional to this, Wendy has worked as a lecturer, assessor, manager and consultant.

    Wendy has considerable experience supporting work-based training providers to become inspection ready as well as personal performance and professional coaching experience.

    Andrew Westerman Head of Inclusion, Kings' Education
    Working across the Early Years, Primary and Secondary phases within both the private and public sector, Andrew has led mainstream schools with dedicated units for children with Speech and Language Difficulties and a Special Needs Resourced Nursery. He has delivered keynote speeches at conferences and events, with frequent media appearances for TV and radio, and he has written for various publications on issues related to education and special needs. As part of a nationwide government program in the UK, Andrew helped design training programs for the ‘Every Child Matters’ Agenda and school-improvement support. He coached principals on behalf of the National College for School Leadership and fronted a DVD on facilitation skills and business tools that went to every school in the country. Andrew is a school improvement partner for schools in the UAE, and established a centre for children with autism in Saudi. He oversaw the delivery of training programmes for school staff and parents on inclusion topics, including Specific Learning Difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Mental Health in Teenagers, and Early Years Development.

    Russell Smart Technology Lead, Kings' Education
    Russell is responsible for supporting and training teachers to use technology as an effective teaching and learning tool with their students. He works with our Systems Team to ensure consistency across Kings' and with teachers and leaders to integrate educational technology into their curriculum, including innovative pedagogical approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment. Russell is a source of ideas, practical tips, inspiration, and energy for teachers seeking to increase their technology skills. He delivers staff CPD sessions and produces The EdTech Termly newsletter. Russell also works with the wider community to ensure Kings' families are aware of our vision and values when using technology. Russell graduated from Westminster College in Oxford with a degree in Primary Education. His passion for computing was recognised when he became the youngest teacher within his Local Authority to be identified as a Leading Teacher for ICT. As Year Leader for Year 6 at Kings’ School Dubai, Russell supported the introduction of the 1:1 iPad initiative, and moved on to became part of the founding Primary Leadership Team at Kings’ School Al Barsha.

    Mohamed Ali Mohamed Director of Primary Arabic, Kings' Education

    Mohamed graduated with a Bachelor of Education, with a major in Arabic, from Alexandria University in Egypt followed by a Diploma in Arabic Curriculum Design.

    Mohamed began teaching Arabic in Alexandria International School for native and non-native speakers and was an iGCSE Arabic teacher prior to taking on Head of Arabic and then Director of Arabic. He also worked as a team inspector for Arabic and Islamic in Egypt.

    After relocating to Dubai, Mohamed joined Kings’ School Al Barsha as a secondary Arabic teacher and in 2016, was appointed Head of Arabic at Kings’ School Dubai.  More recently, Mohamed completed a PhD in Education, was promoted to Director of Arabic for all Kings' primary schools, and is now undertaking further studies for his National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL).

    Mohammad Salameh Director of Secondary Arabic, Kings' Education

    Mohammad joined Kings’ School Al Barsha in August 2017 as Director of Arabic. Prior to this, he worked in a number of outstanding schools in Dubai. Mohammad graduated from Jordan University with a PhD in Pre-Islamic poetry and has been teaching Arabic in the Middle East for 18 years. 

    Mohammad is passionate about using digital resources and critical thinking skills to motivate students and enhance their learning experience. 

    With his strong leadership skills and wide Arabic knowledge, Mohammad has successfully improved Arabic departments throughout his career and he continues to take Kings' School Al Barsha's Arabic team from strength to strength.
